September 27, 2007 Meeting Minutes

Meeting Opened at 7:30, Russ Munyan hosting at Covenant Chapel

Meeting was opened with prayer.

Attendees:  Steve Walton – Chair, Russ Munyan, Rev. Cindy Cone, Tom Carlisle, Warren Vosler, Rev. George Flannigan, Don Shapley, Alan Sanders – HOAC

April 26, 2007 minutes were reviewed and accepted.

Warren presented the financial statement for review.  Statements were reviewed and accepted.

Much discussion ensued regarding finances.  Warren indicates that we are short nearly $ 2,400 of meeting all obligations.  Some of the reasons were the cost of chaplains and, primarily, the cost of leathers.  It was reported that over 3,000 Scouts participated in the leathers program during the 2007 summer camp sessions.  All agreed that this is a wonderful dilemma to have but one that must be resolved nonetheless.

Several suggestions were brought forward – George suggests we charge for the leathers, Russ suggests we write a letter to specific targets, Alan suggests we send a letter to CORs, Warren suggests we write a letter to units, Cindy suggests we take information to roundtables, Don suggests we seek grant funding.

Plan of Action:

  • George will look into charging $1.00 or $ 2.00 for leathers
  • Russ will compose a letter to CORs – Alan will forward data to committee
  • Russ will compose a letter to adult recipients – PRAY should have this data
  • Don will look into potential grant funders
  • Russ will e-mail past grant proposals to Don

Alan will follow up and Warren & Steve will press council for information about the available funds in the endowments.

Russ is maintaining the web site and is collecting pictures of officers for the web site.

Discussion was held regarding committee composition and recruiting.  Comments were that we need a few “non tan shirt” members and that we need the “right” people but weren’t sure what the “right” people meant right now.  We will begin compiling a committee dossier including mission statement, committee and committee member information.

Cindy and Alan report that HOAC is #1 in region for growth, #3 in nation for membership and # 7 nationally for traditional members (up from #11!)

Russ reports that Naish chaplain program went well and he feels good about the consistency achieved for future years.  Nathan will not be returning in 2008 and there is a possibility that Craig may also not return.  Bartle chaplains have been trained now and may be available to go to Naish.

Cindy reports that the response to the God & Country classes has been brisk and that the e-mails and calls she and Alan are receiving indicate there will be many more.  A mass e-mail was sent out by the council announcing the classes. Thanks to the HOAC staff!

Cindy reminds us that the Chaplain and Chaplain Aid training will be Sat. Jan. 5, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM at HOAC office.

Next meeting will be Thursday, November 29 at 7:30 PM – Community Christian Church – 46th & Main
